Karen O.’s cover of “Immigrant Song” for Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. It’s LOUD.
I don’t get all the excitement over this track. There is no hoarier cliché in the movie and music industries than the uninspired cover version/mauling of a classic song for use as tie-in to a soundtrack album — unfortunately, there are no record stores left anymore with cut-out bins to serve as a testament to this fact. The only difference this time is that they usually feature some current chart-topping sensation, whereas the artists in question here (Karen O. and Trent Reznor) are 5 and 15 years past their prime, respectively. But make no mistake, hipster cred aside, this is as bad and offensive in its own way as the P. Diddy “cover” of “Kashmir” for the Roland Emmerich Godzilla remake. Or had you purged that from your memory?
